Fuse finding made easy with intelligent addition to Socket & See range

Identifying the correct fuse or circuit breaker to pull to isolate a particular circuit no longer has to be a matter of guesswork with the launch of the Kew Technik Socket & See Fuse Finder.

Kew Technik Socket & See Fuse FinderAdvanced microprocessor signal identification makes the new Fuse Finder the automatic choice for electricians, electrical engineers and maintenance personnel who need to be 100% certain which fuse or breaker supplies a circuit.

The Fuse Finder system consists of a transmitter, which is plugged into a socket outlet or connected to a light fitting on the circuit to be isolated, and an ergonomically designed handheld receiver.

The transmitter sends pulsed signals up the cable to the consumer unit or distribution board, and the operator simply runs the receiver along the fuses or circuit breakers. The receiver, which shows a red LED and emits an intermittent tone when scanning, picks up the signal coming from the transmitter and records which of the fuses or breakers is emitting the strongest signal.

The operator then runs the receiver along the fuses or breakers a second time, and on this pass the correct circuit is clearly identified with a green LED and a continuous tone.

When an identifying signal is sent around a circuit to the distribution board or consumer unit, there is inevitably some scattering to adjacent fuses or breakers. Existing fuse finders rely on the operator to manually adjust the sensitivity or gain of the scanner to detect the strongest signal, a procedure that can be time consuming and unreliable.

With the Kew Technik Fuse Finder, however, there are no fiddly wheels to adjust, as the intelligent microprocessor controlled scanner automatically adjusts the gain to detect the strongest signal.

The scanner's 45 degree scanning head also enables easy access to consumer panels in awkward locations without the need for double jointed wrists.

The transmitter runs from the mains power while the scanner uses a standard PP9 9V battery. An auto power off feature saves battery life when not in use.

The basic Easy Fuse Finder kit comes with a BS 1363 plug attached to the transmitter, making it suitable for identifying and isolating 240V electrical power circuits.

The Professional Electricians Kit offers more flexibility, as the transmitter is fitted with an IEC connector, enabling either a BS 1363 plug or a set of test leads to be connected. This allows the system to be used on lighting circuits or power circuits that do not yet have socket outlets installed.

The new Fuse Finder enables anyone working alone to reliably identify a circuit at the distribution board, and so avoid the disruption that can be caused by pulling the wrong fuse or circuit breaker.

It is the latest addition to Kew Technik's growing Socket & See range, which also includes mains wiring testers and voltage detectors. Details of the Socket & See range are available from Kew Technik, any of its distributors, or on the web site www.kewtechnik.co.uk
